Firestone / Shinko

Beitrag von motojazz »

Is anyone driving here in germany xs400 with shinko or firestone deluxe 4.0 18 front and 4.5 18 back. I have 81 4g5 changed the rear wheel to 18 zoll. I went to TÜV (without my bike) to ask if i would be allowed to fit the Shinko or Firestone tires. The TÜV man said that they dont have a special table to check max tire width against wheel witdh. They just check if it fits the bike, so the tire form looks normal and nothing interrupts the tire and wheel funktion and some other things like speed index etc.

Reading all these comments here about tire size and what the TÜV guy said is so confusing :kopfk_smil: . Anyone any experience with Shinko and Firestone?

Feel free to reply in German.

I rode them for about 2 years now.
I got the TÜV sticker, but he didn't want to write them in my papers.
They look really good but are a pain in the ass to ride. Close to no traction and when we rode back from Magic Carpet Festival in Copenhagen last year, side winds on the Storebaelt bridge made me feel like riding on ice. Maybe the XS is too lightweight for those tires.
For my daily I'm switching back to BT 45 right now, for my chop project I guess I'll rather use some Heidenaus.
